牛津實用英語語法:224 if從句中的will／would和should
通常這些助動詞不用于條件句中的if之后，然而以下情況例外。
A if you will/would常用于有禮貌的請求中，此時可用更有禮貌的形式would。
If you will/would wait a moment Ill see if Mr Jones is free.
請您稍候片刻，我看看瓊斯先生是否有空。(請等候)
I would be very grateful if you would make the arrangements for me.
如果您能為我安排一下，我將不勝感激。
假如這種要求在當時的情況下通常都會提出，已成為套話，if you would+動詞原形就常常單獨使用。這表示說話人認為對方理所當然會照辦。

(in a hotel) If youd just sign the register.

(in a shop)If youd put your address on the back of the cheque.

B 表示愿意的if+will/would適用于所有人稱：
If hell listen to me Ill be able to help him.
如果他聽我說，我就會幫助他。(如果他樂意聽)
If Tom would tell me what he wants for his dinner Id cook it for him.
如果湯姆愿意告訴我他晚飯要吃什么，我就會做給他吃。(說話人的意思是說湯姆不愿告訴她。)如在這里使用wont時，則意味著拒絕：
If he won t listen to me I cant help him.
如果他不肯聽我的話，我就不能幫他的忙。(如果他不愿聽/如果他拒絕聽)
If they wont accept a cheque well have to pay cash.
如果他們不愿接受支票我們就只能付現金。(如果他們拒收)
C Will 可以用來表示執意堅持(參見第230節B)：
If you will play the drums all night no wonder the neighbours complain.
如果你一定要整夜敲鼓的話，那就難怪鄰居抱怨。(要是你執意敲的話)
D if+would like/care 可以用來代替 if+want/wish，而且比后者有禮貌：
If you would like to come Ill get a ticket for you.
如果你想來，我就給你弄一張票。
If youd care to see the photographs Ill bring them round
如果你有興趣看那些照片，我就帶來。
If hed like to leave his car here he can.
如果他想把車停放在這里，他可以這樣做。
但是，如果改寫一下句子，使 would like沒有賓語，就可以省掉 would：
If you like Ill get a ticket for you.
如果你喜歡，我就給你弄一張票。
但是說：
If youd like a ticket Ill get one for you.

E if+should可以用于條件句類型1，用來表示動作雖有可能實現但可能性不很大。它常和祈使句結合使用，而且主要用于 書面的說明中：

If these biscuits should arrive in a damaged condition please inform the factory at once.
餅干運到時如有損壞，請立即通知本廠。
should可以位于句首而省略掉if：
