翻譯談：“不忘初心”的英譯及其它
世界矚目的中國共產黨第十九次全國代表大會開幕以來，習近平總書記報告中使用的一些熱詞的中譯英立即引起了廣大英語學習者的特別關注，因為這些詞語無論對普通的外語學習者、使用者，還是對考研族、 讓我們首先看看“不忘初心”在十九大報告中出現的具體語境，大會的主題是：
不忘初心，牢記使命，高舉中國特色社會主義偉大旗幟，決勝全面建成小康社會，奪取新時代中國特色社會主義偉大勝利，為實現中華民族偉大復興的中國夢不懈奮斗。
官方譯文如下：
Remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind, hold high the banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics, secure a decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, strive for the great success of socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, and work tirelessly to realize the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.
在這里，“不忘初心” ……宣示了我們不忘初心、繼續前進、戰勝一切困難的堅強意志，彰顯了全國人民走好新的長征路、不斷奪取新勝利的堅定決心!
…demonstrating our unshakeable will to remain true to the founding mission of the Party, to keep pressing ahead, and to overcome all difficulties, and showing the firm determination of all Chinese people to keep up our stride on the new Long March and continue striving for new victories.
顯然，兩種譯文的差異在于對“初心”的處理，前者譯為our original aspiration,后者處理為the founding mission of the Party. 為什么會有這種差異？原因其實很簡單：兩者語境不同，前者是黨的十九大，“黨”在整個話語中已經成為默認的主題，所以“our original aspiration”中的“our”指向就非常清楚；而后者不是黨的代表大會報告，而是政府工作報告，所以如果采取同樣的譯法就可能引起誤解。
這種情況說明了 說到語境，我們還需要意識到語境有大小高低之分，同時又與語體、文體密切關聯，不同的語境也可能會導致文體與風格上的差異。比如，對于19大報告中出現的“不忘初心”，也有外國專家提出了另一種更簡單直白的口語化 Don’t forget why we started.
這樣的譯文在意思上沒有問題，而且由于是十分平白的口語化說法，本來是很理想的選擇。不過，我們必須考慮原文“不忘初心”是出現作為十九大會議主題的語境中，使用十分口語化和隨意的表達方式就未必恰當了。這就說明， 不忘初心，方得始終。
