1. before
【用法一】prep.(時(shí)間)以前
例1:He arrived there before me.他比我先到那里。
例2:A few minutes before the accident he called on me.事故發(fā)生幾分鐘以前他訪問過我。
例3:Please come before 10 o'clock.請(qǐng)十點(diǎn)以前來。
【用法二】prep. (位置)在的前面
例1:He sat just before me.他就坐在我的前面。
例2:The prisoner was taken before the court.犯人被帶到法庭上。
【用法三】prep.(位次)先于,高于
例1:The English verb comes before the object.英語動(dòng)詞放在賓語前面。
例2:We should put the collective interests before our own personal interests.我們應(yīng)該把集體利益放在個(gè)人利益的前面。
例3:Those with babies get on the bus before the oth-ers.帶孩子的人先上車。
【用法四】conj. 在以前
例1:I must finish my work before I go home.
我必須在回家這前做完工作。

例1:I had not waited long before he came.我沒等多久他就來了。

【用法】adj.可怕的,嚇人的

例2:The old man told us a scary story yesterday eve-ning.那位老人昨晚給我們講了一個(gè)嚇人的故事。
3. mysterious
【用法一】adj.神秘的,不可思議的
例1:Scientists are working hard to probe into the mys-terious universe.科學(xué)家們正努力地探索著神秘的宇宙。
例2:They are being very mysterious about their holiday plan.關(guān)于他們的度假計(jì)劃,他們故作神秘。
【用法二】adj. 故弄玄虛的
例1:Don't be mysterious! 不要故弄玄虛。
例2:I think he is mysterious.我認(rèn)為他是在故弄玄虛的。
4. recognize
【用法一】vt. 認(rèn)出,辨認(rèn)
例1:Yesterday he recognized his long lost brother.他昨天認(rèn)出了失散已久的兄弟。
例2:I could hardly recognize him I met him at the airport.在機(jī)場接他時(shí),我?guī)缀跽J(rèn)不出他來了。
例3:No one can recognize you in that disguise.你那么一化裝,誰也不認(rèn)不出你來了。
【用法二】vt.承認(rèn)
例1:We recognize your government as the sole legal government of your country.我們承認(rèn)你們的政府是你們國家唯一的合法政府。

例1:He was recognized as an authority in international law.他被公認(rèn)為國際法權(quán)威。
例2:The school recognized his studies by making him a best student in the school.學(xué)校為表彰他的學(xué)習(xí)而封他為學(xué)校的最佳學(xué)生。
例3:His merits have been recognized.他的功績已被公認(rèn)了。

5. accept

例2:He gladly accepted the offer to teach at the school.他高興地接受了那所學(xué)校任教的請(qǐng)求。
例3:I always accept criticism with an open mind.
我總是虛心接受批評(píng)。

例1:These pieces of furniture are worth a total of one thousand dollars.這幾件家具共值一千元。
例2:How much is a diamond necklace worth?一條鉆石項(xiàng)鏈值多少錢?
例3:None really knows what time is worth.時(shí)間的價(jià)值有多大,沒有人直正知道。
【用法二】adj. 值得有的價(jià)值的
例1:Only the first few pages are worth reading.只有頭幾頁值得一讀。
例2:Is the play worth seeing?這出戲值得一看嗎?
例3:Is it worth all the trouble?費(fèi)那么多事值得嗎?
【用法三】n. [U] 價(jià)值,精神價(jià)值
例1:The professor's discovery was of great worth.這位教授的發(fā)現(xiàn)很有價(jià)值。
例2:Worth makes the man, and want of it, the villain.有德為君子,無德為小人。
例3:The worth of this discovery was not realized until

例1:Your achievements are worthy of admiration. 你的成就值得欽佩。
例2:Another document worthy to be mentioned is the resolution passed at the summit conference.值得一提的另一個(gè)文件就是高級(jí)會(huì)議上通過的那個(gè)決議。
9. fall asleep
fall asleep 入睡
例1:Last night I was trying to fall asleep when sudden-ly the telephone rang.昨天晚上我正要試圖入睡,這時(shí)突然電話鈴響了。
例2:He went to bed early but he couldn't fall asleep.他很早就上床了,但無法入睡。
例3:He fell asleep while listening to the light music.他在聽那首輕音樂時(shí)睡著了。
