租房：“租金”怎么說

在國外要租房子，租金多少是需要考慮的一個重要因素，此外，還要弄清楚水電煤氣、取暖物業(yè)等各種費用。

1. What’s the rent on that? How much is the deposit?(租金是多少?押金又是多少?)

Rent這個詞除了當動詞“出租外，也可當名詞“租金解釋。所以當你想詢間對方“租金是

多少時，可以說：“How much is the rent?或是“How much is it per month?(每個月多少錢?)

除了rent之外，租房子之前通常要另外付一筆押金 (security deposit或cleaning deposit)，當搬走時若被招租人(leaser)發(fā)現(xiàn)有家具被房客 (tenant, lessee)用壞時，就可從這筆 deposit當中扣除。

2. What utilities am I responsible for?(我要負擔哪些公共設施費用?)

Utilities 泛指一般的公共設施及水電煤氣，一般租房子是不包括 utilities費用的，所以租房子時免不了要先問：“Are utilities included?(有包含水電嗎?)在美國，每個地方的規(guī)定都不同，例如有些地方水是免費的但電要自己負擔，還有些地方法律規(guī)定房東冬天一定要供應暖氣，但費用是由誰負擔則不妨先弄清楚。

此外不一定包含在utilities 的民生必需品則是 cable TV service(有線電視)、phone(電話)和 internet connection service(上網服務)。這些在租房子前也不妨先問清楚：“I also need cable, what number do you think I should call?(我還需要有線電視，我該打電話找誰?)
