(2024·寶雞高三一模)While reading a story on 20-somethings complaining about how the economy is ruining their life plans, I couldn't help but think the 20-somethings sound like a bunch of spoiled children who grow up expecting everything to be easy for them.As a 20-something myself, I certainly share their disappointment — my husband and I probably won't be able to buy a house until we're in our forties, and we two are burdened by student loans. But why should it be different? Being young people in America, shouldn't they take up all of the challenges and opportunities that this country offers?

the story: Jennifer, 29, owner of a two-bedroom apartment with her husband, worries that she won't be able to have children for at least a decade because they can't afford to buy a house yet.
I read that, and I thought what planet she is living on where you need to own a house in order to have kids? Has she ever visited a developing country, or even downtown areas in this one? Home ownership is a luxury (奢華), not a fertility requirement.
A 26-year-old man in the story is disappointed that he can't afford to get a PhD in literature.Well, that sounds a bit like expressing disappointment that no one will pay you to write poetry on the beach in Thailand for five years.
Yes, it's sad that these young people feel so lost. But I think the problem is their extremely high expectations, not economic reality.Beth Kobliner, author of Get a Financial Life: Personal Finance in Your Twenties and Thirties, says that she thinks people's expectations grow up when their wealth appears to be increasing.Their parents probably see their home values rise along with their investments.
“So we have people who have grown up in an environment where people have great expectations of what living well means,” says Kobliner.
This recession (經濟衰退) will certainly play a role in forcing those expectations into more realistic group. In the meantime, it seems much better for our mental health to focus on being grateful — for our one-bedroom apartments, for living in modern cities, or perhaps just for being able to eat three meals a day — than on longing for some kind of luxurious life.
1.What makes the author think the 20-somethings sound like a bunch of spoiled children?
A.They expect everything to be easy for them.
B.They complain that the economy is ruining their life plans.
C.They are unwilling to face all of the challenges.
D.They are burdened by student loans.
2.Which of the following is NOT one of the complaints of the 20-somethings?
A.They can't have children for at least a decade for they can't afford to buy a house.
B.They have only a one-bedroom apartment to live in.
C.They can't buy a house until 40 and are burdened by student loans.
D.They despair of not being able to afford to get a PhD in literature.
3.What's Kobliner's attitude towards the 20-somethings with high expectations?
A.Unbearable. B.Opposing.
C.Doubtful.
D.Understanding.
4.What is the best title for this passage?
A.Young people afford to continue their education
B.Young people can't afford to buy a house
C.Young people's high expectations lead to despair
D.The 20-somethings' high expectations

案
“It strikes (struck) sb.+從句 ...”
support“支持”;transform“使改變外觀”;direct“指導;管理”。
live on“以……為生”;live through“度過;經歷過”;live with“忍受;容忍”。
take off“起飛;騰飛;脫下”;take out“拿出;取出”;take in“吸收;領會;欺騙”;take on“承擔;呈現出;雇用”。take on responsibility“承擔責任”,符合語境。
all in all“總之”;in conclusion“總之”;in other words“換言之”。
a good many“許多;很多”,其后直接跟名詞復數。a great many of后接名詞復數時,名詞前通常應有限定詞;a good deal后不可接名詞;a great deal of后應接不可數名詞。
a slip
of my tongue“口誤”,符合句意。fault“過失;過錯”;coincidence“巧合”;dilemma“(進退兩難的)困境;窘境”。
13.選C 句意:失敗是成功之母,保持你的勇氣,你一定會成功的。keep up “保持”,符合題意。keep off “不提(某話題);避免”;
keep out “遮掩;避開”; keep on “繼續”。
maximum“最大限量;最高點”;minority“少數;半數以下”;majority“大多數”;minimum“最低限度;最低點”。故選C。
apparently“顯然地”;rarely“很少地;難得地”;secretly“秘密地;背地里”;desperately“絕望地;不顧一切地”。
Ⅱ.1.選C 根據下文“So we put on our winter coats and snow boots and ________ our way to ...”
make one's way to意為“前往,設法進入”,符合語境。
4.選A 根據上文“...all was not well with ...”及第二段中的“she was in a serious depression (憂郁癥)”可知,Sabina病了。
