  Since 1984,

  more than 1,

800 murals(壁畫)have been painted.Philadelphia now has more murals than any other American city.

The walls that were once ugly with graffiti(涂鴉)are now covered with beautiful pictures of historical heroes and modern art,

thanks to the Mural Arts Program(MAP).Its work makes schools and public places attractive,

the MAP offers youth art programs and workshops. Some one-time graffiti writers even help paint MAP murals.

  The MAP’s work,

  says Golden,

is all about developing a sense of community(社區).When a neighborhood requests a mural,

the MAP works with the people there to develop a message. Some messages have been “Safe Streets,

  ”“Love and Care,

  ” and “Peace Walk”.

The MAP receives up to 50 requests for murals each week.Last year,

  the workers painted 140 murals.

“The making of a mural enters people’s collective memory as an extraordinary,

  ”says Golden,

who began as a muralist in Los Angeles.

in the absence of “由于缺少”。lack可用搭配for lack of 表示“由于缺乏”。

其他各詞contribution(貢獻),direction(方向、指導),loneliness(孤獨、寂寞),均不合句意。

call up喚起對……的回憶;remind的用法是remind sb. of sth.。

9.B spare nothing to do sth.

look through瀏覽,仔細檢查;go through(法律等)被正式通過或接受; live through經歷過。

invite sb. to do sth.

  15.A pleased和glad是用來描述人的情緒的,而這里主語是一件事情(to spend some time with you),所以排除B和C。此外,這是作者對母親說的話,所以選pleasant(令人愉快的)。

  16.B 句意為:她想了一會兒(for a moment),同意了。

as意為“當……

not…anything…=nothing。
