　　notable，noted

　　這一對形容詞都有著名的、知名的含義，但詞義有細微的差異，故使用場合有所不同。

　　★Notable的意思是顯著的或值得注意的（remarkable or deserving notice）。經常與它搭配使用的詞有speaker、event、artist、performance、painter、law、affair、man、woman等。用作名詞時，意為名士、名物。其同義形容詞是conspicuous、striking或eminent、renowned；其同義名詞為celebrity.例：

　　There is a notable（conspicuous）scar on his upper lip．

　　他的上唇有一個很顯眼的傷疤。

　　Mr．Song is a notable（＝an eminent person）．

　　宋先生是個知名人士。

　　★Noted是個中性詞，既可用于好的意味指著名的（renowned），如：noted musician、noted doctor、noted actor、noted statesman；也可用于壞的意味指惡名昭著的（notorious），如：noted tyrant、noted bandit.從下列一個例句中，便可看出它所指的不一定是好人好事：

　　Charles James Fox，the noted statesman，was a notorious gambler．
