  山西省陽城縣2024高考英語閱讀理解一輪優選練習(6)及答案

  【2024高考英語福建省聯考試卷】

I feel it enormous responsibility, as a mother of two little girls, to lead you down a path that is relatively healthy when it comes to beauty and self-image.

In a lot of women’s eyes I’ve probably already failed in that respect due to the amount of pink princess Barbie (芭比娃娃) mess cluttering up (堆滿) Vera’s room. But I will say something about Barbie: I played with that stuff for a solid decade when I was growing up and here I am now at a healthy weight with a healthy outlook on my body and image. I have a successful career. If Barbie was really so damaging to my femininity (女性氣質) and self-image I highly doubt I could list all of the accomplishments.

But I get it too. It’s hard for women to maintain a healthy self-image. I have girlfriends around whom I have to brace myself to see, because just being around them makes me self-conscious. I look at old pictures of my mother and wonder why I’ve never been able to be as skinny as she was. And then I have friends who are thinner than their mothers ever were. We women go round and round in circles, holding hands and trying to be one another sometimes. Men like to think we dress and style ourselves for them, but why would we when they hardly notice? I’ve never tried so hard to look good when I know I’m about to meet up with a stylish girlfriend. It’s she who will notice my slimmed-down waist or the thinnest, little bracelet on my arm.

And I have no doubt that the two of you, Veronica and Juliette, will endlessly compare yourselves to each other. You will wonder why one of you got longer legs or shinier hair. The thing I’ll tell you is this: not even the prettiest of us feel settled. The girl you think looks the most perfect in the world is probably the girl who wants to change herself more than anyone else.

Don’t take these on. You are not worthless. You are so full of love and light and you should let it shine through your every second. If someone pushes you down for standing tall then just push yourself back up and stand even taller. And know that the reason they push you down in the first place is just because they’re scared.

  68. From the second paragraph, we can infer that the author _____.

  A. regrets buying so much Barbie stuff for her daughters

  B. thinks loving Barbie makes her not confident about her self-image

  C. owes her beauty and success to playing with Barbie

  D. thinks playing with Barbie caused no damage to her beauty and success

  69. In the third paragraph, the author intends to show that _____.

  A. women tend to be proud of their beautiful friends

  B. she cares much about her appearance

  C. she feels proud of her mother’s beauty

  D. women tend to admire others and compare with each other

  70. Which of the following is true according to the passage?

  A. The author is disappointed that few men take notice of her slim figure.

  B. The author cares more about looking good before her girlfriends.

  C. Girls should constantly compare themselves with others to improve their beauty.

  D. Only the prettiest girl can feel confident about her beauty.

  71. The author advises her daughters that _____.

  A. they should be cautious not to be pushed down by others

  B. they should care much about their strong points instead of appearances

  C. they should try to grow taller than others

  D. they should care more about others’ opinions

  C8 [2024·天津卷] -----B

Last night's meteor(流星)shower left many people in the community dissatisfied and demanding answers.According to Gabe Rothschild, Emerald Valley's mayor, people gathered in the suburbs of the city, carrying heavy telescopes, expecting to watch the brightly burning meteors passing through the sky. What they found instead was a sky so brightened by the city's lights that it darkened the light of the meteors passing overhead.

“My family was so frustrated,” admitted town resident Duane Cosby.“We wanted to make this an unforgettable family outing, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment.”

Astronomers—scientists who study stars and planets—have been complaining about this problem for decades. They say that light pollution prevents them from seeing objects in the sky that they could see quite easily in the past. They call on people and the government to take measures to fight against it.

There is yet a population besides professional and amateur star observers that suffers even more from light pollution. This population consists of birds, bats, frogs, snakes, etc. For example, outdoor lighting severely affects migrating (遷徙的)birds.According to the International Dark-Sky Association,“100 million birds a year throughout North America die in crashes with lighted buildings and towers.”

Countless more animal casualties(傷亡) result from the use of artificial lighting.Clearly, people enjoy the benefits of lighting their evenings, but some scientists think it can be harmful for humans, too. They worry that exposure to light while sleeping can increase a person's chances of getting cancer.

Emerald Valley is only one community that is becoming aware of the negative effects of light pollution. For years, Flagstaff, Arizona, has enforced lighting regulations in its city in order to assist astronomers at the Lowell Observatory.Similar efforts have been made worldwide, and a movement is underway to remind us to turn off lights when we are not using them, so that other creatures can share the night.

  閱讀理解-----E

We live in a very competitive world. Everybody seems to be competing with someone at some level. Each week we spend hours playing or watching others compete in sporting activities all over the world. We cannot help being impressed by the level of excellence that these people achieve.

In sport and business, competition encourages excellence in performance. Where there is no competition, improvement in performance is less likely. Some level of competition is a have-to in all aspects of life.

The following story makes this point.

As two friends are hiking in the forest they come across a huge, ferocious and obviously hungry bear. Its next meal has just come into sight, and they are it! The first friend calculates that the bear will catch them in 27.3 seconds. At that point, she panics, realizing there is no escape. She faces her friend, with the fear of death in her eyes. To her amazement, she observes that her friend is not scared at all. On the contrary, her friend is quickly but calmly taking off her hiking boots and putting on running shoes. “What do you think you’re doing?”the first hiker says to her companion. “You’ll never be able to run faster than that bear”. “That’s true,” says the companion,“but all I have to do is escape, faster than you.”

We all compete when the motivation is strong enough. However, competition is not the real purpose of life. Fulfilling the measure of our creation can only be achieved individually.

Most of time, we are not in competition with any other person, so we do not have to compare ourselves with others. There is only one person that can fulfill our role and that is us. This means that others cannot beat us to the finish line because there is no race. This is not to say that others do not have a similar role to us, but it is never the same. This is important to understand if we are going to enjoy life. Every human being is unique and cannot be cloned. In this, I am not referring to the body, only to the spirit, soul, or the essence of a person.

  .

  A. is necessary though harmful

【2024高考復習】閱讀理解During the school year many parents take on the role of driver as they drive their children from one lesson to another.Understandably so.Many of us want our children to have a little taste of everything, from organized sports to music, dance and more. But we can overdo it,leaving our children feeling a little burnt out,and according to parent educator Diane Loisie,it’s their school work that suffers the most,“After school,if they’re busy in a number of sporting events, besides, they need to do their homework, then the time they’ll feel sleepy is in the classroom.Your child needs free time.So if you’re filling up that after school time, then it’s during the day they’re going to be taking a break.”

Professor Claire McDermott agrees that there’s a lot to be gained from sometimes putting those scheduled lessons and activities away.“Relaxing time is important for children. It’s time just to do the things they want to do.Children can go up to their room,or they can play around. It doesn’t look like productive time;parents certainly wouldn’t be saying ‘Wow,are they ever learning things now?’ But this relaxing time gives both the body and the brain just a wonderful chance to relax after a day.It helps a child prepare for sleep, but it also helps to understand the learning that’s gone on that day.”

It’s hard to prevent signing our kids up for some activities and lessons. After all, many of us want our children to have a head start in life and the chance to join in great activities in the arts or sports is part of that. However,Loisie feels that in the long run most children feel better with just a few key activities because it gives them an opportunity to master them.“When we get our children in too many activities because we want our children to experience everything, then what we’re doing is setting them up not to be good at one thing or gain a skill.” So choose your children’s activities wisely. It may be one of the best things you’ve ever done for your kids and for the family drivers!

  【語篇解讀】 為了孩子的成長,父母煞費苦心,可是,這么做對孩子有益嗎?藝在精而不在多,明智地為孩子選擇適合他們自身的活動才是對他們最好的呵護。

A.They can get bored easily about everything.

B.They might have no time to do the homework.

C.They might not pay much attention to learning.

D.They can not easily focus on learning during the day.

解析 推理判斷題。結合第一段后半部分中的“then the time they’ll feel sleepy is in the classroom”以及“then it’s during the day they’re going to be taking a break”可推知,如果孩子們放學后上太多的課,白天他們就不容易集中精力學習。
