英語單詞中名詞的考察
在英語單詞中名詞的考察除了近義詞還有對反義詞比納西，一次多議用法，名詞與介詞搭配，動詞、名詞或形容詞與介詞的搭配;動詞與副詞的搭配等。這些搭配復雜多樣，而這些也常常是產生詞匯和語法錯誤的主要原因。
1. 近義詞
這類題的的四個選項為意義相近的四個名詞，要求考生從中選出符合題意的詞。
例：1997年6月四級第40題
The newspaper didn't mention the ________ of the damage caused by the fire.
A) range B) level C) extent D) quantity
從4個選項看，空格中應該填入一個表示“程度的詞，所以答案是C) extent。the extent of the damage的意思是“損失的程度。選項A) range的意思是“范圍、幅度，指“可以達到或探測到的最大范圍(the maximum area in which it can reach things or detect things)，所以range用在這里不合適。選項B) level表示“水準、程度，指一個量表或序列中的位置(a position in a scale or rank)，所以level用在本句中也不妥。選項D) quantity的意思是“數量，但damage是不可數名詞，沒有數量之分。因此這三項都是錯誤的。

四級中常考的是名詞的單、復數，數詞+名詞作定語，及名詞的所有格
