　　A Doctor Devoted to His Motherland

　　Mr． Xiang Ming， D． Sc①， returned to China in 1989 without hesitation．

　　I＇m a Chinese． It＇s my duty to devote all my life to my motherland②， said he．

　　Mr． Xiang Ming， male， aged 39， is now working in Beijing chemical works as a chief engineer．

　　After he graduated from Beijing Engineering College in 1980， he was sent to Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the U． S． A． to study chemistry． In 1986 he received a doctor＇s degree③． Shortly after he gained fame in scientific research， the Walsh Company＇s manager tried hard to employ him and promised to give him a good salary． But Mr． Xiang did not accept the employment．

　　①D． Sc是 Doctor of Science的縮寫，意為理學(xué)博士。

　　②devote one＇s life/oneself to something 為而獻(xiàn)身

　　③博士學(xué)位的英語表達(dá)是a doctor＇s deGREe；獲得學(xué)位用receive a＇s degree來表達(dá)。例如，我們可以說receive a bachelor＇s/master＇s degree（獲得學(xué)士/碩士學(xué)位）。

　　【寫法指要】

　　1）本文也是介紹說明文。但這是介紹別人的，我們把它叫做人物簡介（a brief introduction to a person），也稱人物傳略（profile）。不過，本文與真正意義上的人物簡介或人物傳略有所不同。正式的這類文章是完全按時(shí)間順序安排結(jié)構(gòu)的，比如本文應(yīng)該用Xiang Ming is a man at the age of 39．開篇，接下來寫上文的第四段After he graduated from． But Mr． Xiang did not accept the employment．，然后是第二段，再寫第一段，最后是第三段，把其中的male， aged 39刪掉。而本文是按內(nèi)容提示給報(bào)紙寫的簡訊。所以，文章應(yīng)該兼有資訊特寫的文體特點(diǎn)。資訊特寫要求把最重要的內(nèi)容安排在最前面，接著引用人物所說的話作客觀報(bào)道，下面才是正統(tǒng)意義上按時(shí)間順序組織的介紹說明。

　　2）第四段是按時(shí)間順序?qū)懙模帽頃r(shí)間順序的銜接詞語after，in 1986， shortly after來體現(xiàn)。

　　3）第三段用male，aged 39和as an engineer等來介紹人物的性別、年齡和身份，是寫人物傳記或人物簡介時(shí)常用的典型表達(dá)方式，既簡單明了，又生動(dòng)活潑。如果把這幾項(xiàng)內(nèi)容分別寫成4個(gè)簡單句，如Mr． Xiang Ming is a man． He is 39 years old． He is now working in Beijing chemical works． He is an engineer．就顯得十分啰嗦，單調(diào)乏味。
