　　4. besides ，except，except for ，but for 這組詞都有 除了、除之外 之意，但實(shí)際含義相差很大。besides： 除之外，還有 ，著重于此外還有之意，因?yàn)閎esides 后所提及的人或事物與前面所談及話題都符合同樣的情況。

　　Besides his work in physics, he spent much time working for human rights and progress. 除了物理學(xué)方面的工作以外，他還用了很多時(shí)間為和進(jìn)步而工作。

　　except ： 除外 含義是從整體里除去一部分. 因?yàn)榭商峒暗那闆r或道理不適合于這一部分，漪重于 排除在外。后面可接各種意義的介詞短語、不定式或從句來表達(dá)不同的意思，而besides 則不能這樣用。

　　l know nothing about the accident except what I read in the newspaper. 我除了在這份報(bào)紙上讀到有關(guān)該事故的情況外，其他我一無所知。

　　except for： 除之外與except 使用上的區(qū)別在于：except for 所指的是不同類的事物。

　　I know nothing about him except for the fact that he lives next door. 我除了知道他住在隔壁之外，對(duì)他一無所知，

　　we enjoyed the party except for the loud music. 除了音樂嘈雜了點(diǎn)，我們?cè)谖钑?huì)上很盡興。：

　　party與loud music 不同類。而He works eveyday except Sunday。everday 與Sunday 則同類。

　　but：除去、除之外 強(qiáng)調(diào)意義的基本完整性，即著重表明but之前的事物屬于同樣的情況，基本上是一個(gè)整體。

　　To make the newly-developed product a competitive brand in the international market, the engineer thought of nothing but improving its qualiiy. 為了能使這種新開發(fā)的產(chǎn)品在國(guó)際市場(chǎng)上成為有競(jìng)爭(zhēng)力的品牌，這位工程師一心只想著提高其質(zhì)量。

　　but fur： 要不是、若不是 表示假設(shè)一種與事實(shí)不相符的情況，謂語多用虛擬語氣，且多是完成時(shí)。

　　But for the generous help of my colleagues , I wouldnt have gotthis book published in such a short tim. 要不是同事們的慷慨幫助， 我不可能在這么短的時(shí)間內(nèi)出版這本書。
